Explorations In Math

Fun. Engaging. Relevant. Fabulous. Math!

Explorations in Math turns math into a lifelong adventure. By building a culture in elementary schools that showcases math as fun, engaging, and relevant, we unleash every child’s ability to
conquer math in his or her own way. And that’s simply fabulous to see!

Vision

Explorations in Math envisions a culture in which all elementary students succeed in math so they can better succeed in life.

Mission

Explorations in Math is a non-profit organization with a mission to build a sustainable math culture in elementary school communities.

Goals

Our goals are to:
1.  create confidence and excitement for math in young children,
2.  start early in the educational lives of children, and
3.  involve the entire school community including teachers and parents.

Why we need to get serious about making math fun!

Kids need not fear math! In order to make math a friend, rather than a foe, kids do need to know their teachers, parents, and community believe in them and will help them succeed. The problem is, nearly half of 10th graders cannot pass the math WASL and the failure rates for Latinos, African-Americans and Native Americans are substantially higher.

Explorations in Math believes that just as with literacy, we need to create a culture and movement in which confidence in and enjoyment of math is commonplace and assumed. Here’s our  5-pronged strategy for making sure that happens:

  1. Create high quality programs that adhere to state and national educational standards.
  2. Work inside and outside of the classroom.
  3. Offer a variety of fun and interesting out-of-class activities.
  4. Create confident teachers of mathematics.
  5. Build programs that can be sustained within a school over the long term.

Join us in ensuring that children as young 6, or 8 or even 10 embrace math and that all kids believe they can unleash their math potential!

Make sure they know YOU believe in them.
