The Four Elements of our Engagement with Schools
In the 2009-10 academic year, we took our school partnerships to a deeper level by establishing four key elements that enable school communities to advance math culture, a key to math achievement.
The four elements, which form the model we now will use in all our partnerships, include:
Launch: An initial meeting with staff, parents and other key individuals to introduce our work around building math culture and to learn what partners need to improve beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes about math.
Goal Setting: A series of activities to collect baseline data on the status of a partner’s math culture and identify specific goals and a timeline for achieving those goals.
Program: Implementing our Exploring Math program elements and support from our staff to advance identified math goals.
Measurement: Baseline, mid-term and final assessments of beliefs, behaviors and attitudes, implementation of programming and progress on goals.
