Explorations In Math

Why Attitude Matters

Thank you for your interest in improving attitudes about math!

Read on for more resources and tips for playing math with kids, or give us your feedback on our Play Math card packs.

Explorations in Math works to build positive attitudes about math because attitudes matter. Adults influence how the children in their lives approach any number of subjects every day. That’s why at Explorations in Math, we work to create positive associations between kids and math.

It starts with parents who, regardless of their own experiences with math, and through the attitudes they exhibit; communicate and reinforce that their children can be successful in math. By stopping the cycle of math anxiety and avoiding phrases like “I hate math,” and “I was never good at math,” parents begin to influence positive attitudes in their children.

It continues with our partner elementary school communities establishing a positive math culture.  And just as with literacy, it takes everyone in the community making math a priority.
